Flirting with Europe

For five months, i was at the European Commission, along with 500 fellow stagiaires.
I left Brussels at the end of July and since then, i am in Avignon (southern France).
I cannot say that this traineeship was a waste of time. Though my job in DG ADMIN (Human Resources) was not that exciting, I and 7 fellow stagaires got involved in a very interesting project: a theatre play dealing with the "stage".
We wrote the 30 pages script in 3 months before beginning rehearsing. It was a tough challenge since most of us never experienced anything like this before. Luckily we got a subtantial grant allowing us to play in a regular theatre with a technical crew.
The story was quite simple and supposed to be a comedy... It was composed by five main characters (shy, ambitious, dater, looser, arrogant) and four supporting characters: the secretary, the chairwoman, the speaker, the head of unit and the recruiter.

We performed three times before a total audience of around 320 people...
It was a wonderful experience and i'd like to thank all those who worked hard on the play:
Estelle Gallot as Timma
Lina Banyte as Barbora
Alice Clerc as Aphrodita
Jean-Marie Rogue as Viktor
Stephan Nielsen as the head of unit, speaker and off scree voice
Myriam Delomez as the secretary and the chairwoman
Irena Veiveryte as the recruiter
Other thanks go to Piotr Rozalski, Daniela Raychinova, Eleri Lynn and Marie Ledru.
All these people were all commited to the success of the play and very kind. For sure my best memories come from this project rather than from drafting documents in my anonymous Commission's office.

Hi Gerald,
And what was your role?
I was in the Alps and Nice last weekend. As I was driving to Nice (actually a friend was driving), I suddenly thought Gerald's in the South too. Anyway, I realised too late to meet up. But maybe some other time. Maybe I'll return later this or next year. Have a good time with whatever you do in Avignon.

Just to answer, Sander,
(because Geg never does:), Gerald was the arrogant one, isn t it visible enough at the last picture? :)))
And the play was really very good!
Geg, you should continue in what you do wherever you are! Holding your fingers, and give us more news....!

Hey Gérald,
Merci pour cet hommage à notre fantastique expérience.
Je tombe par hasard sur ton site...
Of course Gérald was the arrogant one, and he was absolutly perfect in this role... It has been made by and for him!!!
For me too, it's one of my best memories of the stage, but i'm sure it is for all those who have been involved into.
Gérald, j'espère que tout se passe bien pour toi à Dublin. Il est probable que j'y passe un de ces 4.
A bientot. Bises. Timma!!!
